The key points are:
- If you are a guy, do not get married before 25.
- If you are a guy, do not get married to someone who is 9 years or more your junior.
- Do not have kids from a previous marriage or from before marriage.
- Women, do not marry someone who wants kids less than you.
- If your parents are still together, odds are stronger that you will stay together too.
- The odds you will stay together are downhill after the first marriage. So you better get it right the first time.
- If you’re poor, you’re SOL. (Just joking, but you’re more likely to split up.)
- The husband shouldn’t be unemployed.
- If you smoke, your partner should too.
Of course, rules (as always) are not hard and fast because I know a couple that where the husband is on his fourth marriage and the wife is on her second, she smokes (he doesn’t), and they both have kids from other marriages and they seem completely happy.
